Hello everyone!!!! This blog entry is kind of unique because it is my first attempt to do a travel vlog about a country that I visited, for 24 hours. Yes, that’s right! Here we go with #OvernightKorea.
Korea, the land of Korean drama, Kpop and of course COSMETICS! Being a Kdrama fan myself, this country is definitely a must go destination. And after this short yet fun overnight trip, I will definitely come back!
What can you do in Korea if you only have 24 hours?
Shopping
Eat
Get LOST!!!!!!!
Oppa hunting
Yes, you can do all those and we are lucky because we stayed nearby one of the shopping districts… HONGDAE!!!! Our airbnb was right outside the mrt and it was walking distance from all the hype of the city. And for fellow travelers out there Korea is a city that “almost do not sleep”, why you might ask, simply because we started shopping at 2000 Korea time and stores are still open until the wee hours in the morning.
All the cosmetics shops are open and you can also do in-store tax refunds. The shopping district is also alive with all the buskers and road side flea market. Korea’s fashion sense is indeed “forward looking”, simply because they have the most current styles (which is comparable to Hong Kong & Japan), so if you want to get on the latest fashion bandwagon, Korea is the place for you! Oh! Did I mention that the stuffs are also affordable, and you can buy most of them for less than $15 (SGD).
After going bankrupt and walking around there is only one place left to go, if you are not into clubbing, go to their chicken places and have soju and beer. Their serving is also ridiculously big (as compared to Singapore) and the price is of course reasonable. My friend and I spent $29 (SGD) for a whole meal (the chicken lasted until breakfast).
What more can you do in Korea?
Drink coffee, loads of it! When we went around in the morning I had two doses of coffee simply because it is everywhere! I guess visiting a café is also a highlight (which was fortunately beside our airbnb).
GET LOST!!!! We did not exactly get lost but we walked aimlessly, around Hongdae and Seoul. I mean traveling is really fun if you get to experience the country’s culture! Along the way we also managed to spot some of the “Oppas”, thanks to advertisements and print ads, and that was the oppa hunting rendezvous.
Some travel tips (although this might be subjective to my experience alone) :
Eat the Kimbapap (Gimbap) Kimchi-Maling flavor from convenience stores
Connect to Wifi (almost everywhere, and its REALLY FAST)
Exchange enough money!!! (But you can always use credit card)
BUY SHOES (They have a wide variety of limited edition shoes! NMDs!!!)
Buy cosmetics outside the airport (cheaper and more samples!)
EAT STREET FOODS (cheap & really good)
Drink as much coffee (iced coffee!!!)
KOREA SLEEPS LATE & WAKE UP LATE!!!!!!
I'll be back Korea!!!
