Rating 4.5/5

The first installment in the movie franchise of the ever-famous book by Veronica Roth hit the cinemas worldwide a few weeks ago, and it was a massive hit! My personal rating for this movie is 4/5, yes I love the book as well as the movie but there were some downside to it but I promise those were minor setbacks that I just happen to notice.

The story revolved in a rather futuristic era which is somehow similar to that of the Hunger Games, but rest assured they both have different takes on the whole future generation scenario. The people were divided into different factions; Abnegation known as the selfless, Amity as the peaceful, Candor as the honest, Erudite as the intelligent and lastly the Dauntless as the fearless. Beatrice Prior who is the main lead in the story originally belonged to the Abnegation however after finding out that she is a Divergent and is possible to have the attributes of more than one faction she made a brave decision of choosing Dauntless. Wherein she encountered numerous physical setbacks as they train to be officially part of the faction in the fear of being a factionless, which is despised and looked down by the society. Then he met Tobias or also known as Four who just like was an Abnigation who transferred to Dauntless and is a Divergent. Their love for each other started to blossom however complications such as the pressure from the society and rebellion against the Abnigation who were the leaders by the Erudite. In addition to that Divergents were killed as they were viewed as threat to the society, hence Tris (Beatrice) struggled her way to conceal her true identity. In the end of the story the rebellion against the Ambinagation was put into action by controlling the Dauntless (army) due to the serum that the Erudites created. Although the rebellion was put into a halt the question of what will happen next remained a mystery as the movie ended.

My personal view of the movie is that they really made an effort to abide to the book by deleting only minor scenes and still showing those major events from the book. The surprising part is the detailed adaptation of every scene and it was as if you are seeing every word from the book. Which is obviously a plus factor especially for movie lovers who happen to be bookworms at the same time. It is like seeing your imagination coming to life. However, the main downside of the whole movie is the length, yes they managed to capture the moments from a reader’s point of view but the duration was longer than an average movie. So if you will watch this in cinemas make sure you have your popcorns and nachos ready!

Lastly, I would like to share my own view on the depiction of the humanity’s future according to this book. I believe the plot was really thought off in detailed and critical thinking as it is how the society is divided now a days, but in a more twisted way. The reason why they did not favor the Divergents is due to the fear that the same thing will happen, a war that will definitely ruin mankind. The author portrayed an ideal future where in the leaders of the society are selfless, the army is fearless, the people are both honest and happy, lastly where intelligence alone can be a threat. So either ways it can be a mind-opening book despite the fiction genre, as a perfect society need not be divided but rather united
